Singers have it easy

Yeah. I said it, Singers have it easy. That’s if you know how to sing and monetise it. Truth is, I argue that singers need more respect regarding how other instrumentalists view them.

Singing is the most vulnerable thing an artist can do. The reason is, that you need emotion, accuracy and distinctiveness every time you perform. There’s no hiding behind an instrument, the instrument speaks for you. Singing is all you. Naked to the world, vulnerable. Two outcomes, admiration or embarrassment from peers or the audience. Most people can’t fathom, how exceptional you need to be to be considered a reputable singer. It’s vocally the equivalent of being an athlete. The voice must be trained vigorously for hours, days, years even decades. All that time, you sing for perhaps 30 minutes at a performance.  The reason why we all respect singers, is that they can display emotions that we can feel in our day to day. I honestly would prefer to be a top singer, than an instrumentalist because singing is where most of the glory comes as a musician.

If anyone wants to learn to sing, the only way ideally is to get a vocal coach in person. Speaking of which, I should get some singing lessons again. It’s costly, but sometimes you have to pay your way. And to get the skills to pay the bills, you need to pay the bills to get those skills. Or practise covers of your favourite artist, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Lastly, find what type of voice suits you best, I love Bruno Mars and The Weeknd, but I’m not sounding like them. I have a deeper voice, I can find what voice best suits me. And you will too. Shoutout to all the singers. You do everything to bring music alive. Thank you!
