I miss being 17 sometimes

Or maybe it was just the fact I was treating it like it was university. I was listening to one of my tracks ‘Ride or Die’, and the song always hit the spot for me. I’m 23 now and I can feel what I felt 6 years ago. Incredible. I didn’t care if it had one view or a million, it’s why I do music for. The feeling.

Nonetheless, it was mainly the lead-up to getting the song posted. First of all, I’m fuming that I didn’t know about distribution at the time, and missed out on streaming, but everything happens for a reason. Back to January 2019, we go!

So Vasco and Cris, hit me up around 2 am telling me to come meet them in Oval to shoot the music video. I was not tired, ironically I’m up at 2 am talking right now.

I made my coffee, which I had never done before, and it tasted absolutely… rubbish. But best believe I finished it.

My parents didn’t know that I left the house, nonetheless, I went to meet the boys to record. We ended up going to Soho, it was my first time, and I was mesmerised by the culture, and how nice and bright everything looked. We ended up going through Victoria, Westminster, Marble Arch, etc. Everything was sweet, but there was an extra thing I had to do. I needed to get my friend to come through, I was messaging her quite a bit, just checking where she was at. No response for an hour or two. (I gotta remember that I was up at ungodly hours, just like I am right now, and normal people sleep at this time…) Anyways, as you can imagine, I was bricking it, cause both of them were expecting her and if I messed up, it’s a bad look also it would have messed up their vision for the video. Thankfully, she responded, and I was finally relaxed, knowing I did not fumble. It was the first time we met, and she did me a solid at the time. I was amazed with how everything came out, everything fit the vibe/aesthetic and added to the story surrounding the theme of love. If she didn’t come through, the video would not hit the same and it would just be me walking through Central London upset.

The funny thing is that I negotiated that I would get her a McDs meal, for her efforts (best believe I used a coupon… can’t knock the hustle!) So simple. And we became great friends, ironically we were pretty local to one another. Great times for sure. I haven’t checked in on her in a while, life’s changed but regardless I hope she’s all well. Back to the recording, we end up wrapping up around 10 am. Vasco and Cris, I know you guys must have been tired asf, I have serious love for you guys, need to say it more than I usually do. Nonetheless, I miss those carefree times, getting videos recorded. Now we’re men. We have responsibilities and partners to provide for, but that day I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Lesson here, enjoy the moments cause it will usually be a great story and throwback.

Lastly, go give Ride or Die, a listen. With the additional context I’ve given you.
